Ulla-Kirsti Junttila - Vesimiehen aika
Sanoista lauluiksi
Vesimiehen aika (FIN)
Author: Ulla-Kirsti Junttila
Narrators: Johanna Valle & Karoliina Kudjoi

In the early 1970s, Finland was still in the strong era of President Urho Kekkonen – a time of urbanization, economic growth, and the development of the welfare state.
Vesimiehen aika tells the story of the friendship between two young women, Maikki and Annikki, and their hitchhiking trip across Europe in 1971. The narrative unfolds through the travel diary written by Maikki. More than 40 years later, Annikki reads the diary on her journey to Stockholm, prompting her to reflect on their friendship and its ending. The storytelling weaves together the stages of Annikki’s life after her retirement with the account of the girls’ shared journey, which also began with a ferry trip to Stockholm.
Ulla-Kirsti Junttila’s novel is partly based on the author’s own hitchhiking travels in Europe in the early 1970s.

What is the process for publishing an audiobook?

(1) The story

Send us the manuscript of your work in as finished a form as possible. If we accept the work for publication, we will contact you by email and can make a publishing agreement. The literary genres most suitable for audiobooks are especially plot-driven novels, children’s and young adult books, and non-fiction. If your book contains a large number of tables or graphics, we recommend considering another publishing format or adapting the work into a form better suited for an audiobook.

(2) Choosing the narrator

Together, we will choose the voice actor for your book. In our narrator catalog, you will find a wide selection of Finland’s most popular audiobook narrators. Our experienced team will help you find the right voice and ensure the narrator matches the style of the book. We are often asked whether an author can also narrate their own book. Yes, they can! In that case, we will guide you through the studio techniques and provide tips on voice use, or bring in a recording engineer.

(3) Audiobook production

Producing an audiobook takes on average 3–5 weeks from the start of narration to the distribution of the finished audiobook. During the production stage, the book is recorded, proof-listened, corrected, edited, and finally mixed and mastered by an experienced audio engineer. For audiobook production, it is a good idea to prepare a pronunciation guide for any foreign words, which can easily be done once the project has started.

(4) Distribution and marketing

The cover art, metadata, and marketing texts are prepared and delivered along with the audio files for distribution. We distribute your audiobook to all streaming services and online stores. The audiobook will be available to listen to on your desired release date.

(5) Royalties and reporting

We pay  out e-book and audiobook royalties to authors twice a year. Along with the payment, we provide the most comprehensive possible report  on the book’s sales and listening figures, so that together we can track the journey of the work around the world.
